Mariposa-The community of Bear Valley was threatened last night by the Hunter Fire, which started on Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Hunters Valley and Detweiler Roads. Due to the efforts of firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), Mariposa County Fire Department, United States Forest Service (USFS), Office of Emergency Services (OES) and private equipment owners, no structures were lost.
Today there are eight airtankers, two California National Guard helicopters, and helicopters from CDF and the USFS, in addition to bulldozers, engines and crews already assigned to the fire. The Hunter Fire has consumed more than 5,000 acres and is 5 percent contained. There have been three minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
