Deputy Director, Fire Protection Programs
Chief Teter was appointed Deputy Director on January 1, 2015. He began his career with CAL FIRE in 1992 as a Firefighter II/Paramedic in the San Bernardino Unit. In 1994, he promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer/Paramedic. In 1998, Dave promoted to Fire Captain/Paramedic in the Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU). In 2001, he was assigned as a helitack captain on Copter 404 in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit for one season. Dave promoted to Battalion Chief in 2007, becoming the Department's Safety Officer, serving in this critical role, until he returned to the field in 2011 as the Julian Battalion Chief in the San Diego Unit. In 2012, Dave returned to AEU as the Cameron Park Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal, and in 2013, promoted to Division Chief for the Northern Division. Later that year, he returned to Sacramento as the Deputy Chief overseeing the Department's Safety and EMS Programs. In September 2014, he promoted to Assistant Deputy Director, Fire Protection.
Prior to CAL FIRE, Dave was employed by the Los Angeles City Fire Department for two years and in the private ambulance industry before that. He has been a licensed and accredited paramedic in good standing since 1986. He has served as a Governor appointed Commissioner on the State Commission on Emergency Medical Services since 2010. Dave has also filled several command staff positions on CAL FIRE Incident Management Teams.
